DREAD MAIDEN Biography
An alchemist of voyages steeped in deep, rolling basslines, euphoric sweetness and bone-rattling jungle beats, Dread Maiden takes inspiration for her aural journeys from her love of the ebb and flow of progressive metal, psychedelic rock journey music, and a deep love for dub and drum and bass, with the goal to manifest jungle and drum and bass mixes with an eclectic concoction of light and dark, high and lows.
Originally from Cowra in country NSW AU and now residing in Mulubinba (Newcastle AU), she has a background in acoustic music and production and has been an avid supporter of the Australian drum and bass community for years. The 2020-2021 COVID lockdowns proved the best time for her to focus on her love of drum and bass and creating aural adventures, blending jungle, techy, dark minimal, half-time and liquid drum and bass, as well as exploring the wide spectrum of other bassy sub-genres.
Dread Maiden co-hosted Sydney-based Orbital Radio show, Cabin Fever Sessions from late 2021 until early 2023 (when Orbital Radio closed its doors), alongside Cabin Fever boss-lady Tassone, and KreliaS, representing Newcastle AU DJ collective, Newy Bass Crew.
She thrives as the creative powerhouse behind Newy Bass Crew, a dynamic force that aims to illuminating local DJs, artists, and events. Newy Bass Crew has already orchestrated a series of unforgettable Steel City Bass events, as well as rooftop parties and an array of captivating gatherings throughout the Newcastle region, with numerous upcoming events in the pipeline. They also enthusiastically engage with the Newcastle and Maitland Fire & Flow community jams, further fueling their vibrant presence.
Additionally, Dread Maiden is a resident DJ for Sydney's Cabin Fever Crew frequently playing at Sydney venues such as The Lansdowne, The Factory Theatre and Knox Street Bar.
Dread Maiden has featured on Bristol's Goat Shed Radio show, The Down Underground, and she has played at some amazing parties over the last 2 years, including 3 of Newcastle's Higher Ground event series, Newy Bass Crew's Steel City Bass and Skyscape Bass, Dekonstructed's Dekonstructed Dance 1 & 2 and Dekonstructed Sessions, a plethora of Cabin Fever Crew events and warehouse parties, Newcastle's Daydreaming, 404's Chikara Bass, Deep Space Entertainment's Psyheads, Melbourne's DNB Mondays, WWYW's Safe Sounds Festival and bass-centric doof, Basscamp 2022, to name a few.
She has shared the stage as support for Brazilian drum and bass artist Jam Thieves, UK jungle powerhouse, Serial Killaz. jungle and drum and bass OG, Dillinja, New Zealand's bass juggernaut, Paige Julia, and Melbourne's experimental, hypnotic and ambient duo, OK EG.
2023 has already seen her featured as part of the Cabin Fever Crew takeover at the inaugural Zenith Gathering festival in April 2023 and has many exciting things coming up soon.
